When you are preparing a new recipe, there are a few things you should keep in mind to be a more successful cook.
1.) The recipe doesn't know how thick that piece of meat, chicken or pork is.
- Use a digital thermometer to check the doneness! The time the recipe gives you is only a guide!
2.) The recipe doesn't know how hot you have preheated your pan.
- When instructed to heat to "medium-low" this can vary greatly based on the strength of your burners. You may need to adjust the flame.
3.) The recipe doesn't know how thick your pan is.
- Are you using a cast-iron skillet or a non-stick skillet from Walmart? The thickness of the pan determines the effectiveness of heat transfer, the thinner the pan the more UNFORGIVING! If you have trouble with burning things on a regular basis, it may be the quality of your pan. Might be time to upgrade!
